India holds the Lok Sabha Elections for the Lower House of the Parliament every five years. This year, the election took place between April 19th and June 1st in seven phases, making this the biggest electoral process in the world. A crucial election in terms of the Indian political scenario, but also global geopolitics, the elections this time witnessed many first-time Generation Z voters participating between the ages 18 and 23.

Elections impact not only a country’s political system but also its religious, environmental, and international relations. They have a significant influence on our lives, both directly and indirectly. This year’s election will determine the working conditions for the upcoming working class for the next five years. Young voters can influence policies that directly impact their lives — be it affordable education, job opportunities, or mental health initiatives. By voting, Gen Z can drive the narrative towards policies that align with their aspirations and concerns, shaping a future that resonates with their values. This has received a lot of attention thanks to social media.

Gen Z has expressed their opinions on the election and how they want the future party to develop their nation for more access and progress for a brighter future for the next generation. Gen Z, renowned for its activism and social awareness, understands that voting is more than just marking a ballot. It is a direct contribution to the democratic process, a chance to voice opinions on issues that matter most — from climate change and education to social justice. By casting a vote, the youth become active participants in shaping the very fabric of their society.

The cumulative turnout across all age categories for all seven stages of voting was around 64%. In recent elections, only about 40% of new first-time voters are Gen Z. Despite many Gen Z voters posting about voting to pique citizens’ interest, there has been a significant drop in interest and voters. While fewer in number, their thoughts and points of view are significant.

It is critical for the next government to recognize and not suppress their opinions and ideas since they are the future. Their ideas form and alter their world for the improvement of their future, which is one of the key purposes of the government — to ensure and construct a brighter future for the citizens.

In conclusion, Gen Z wants problems like poor education, unemployment, and bias based on religion and caste to be eradicated. They want a government that not only addresses current problems but also anticipates future obstacles and prepares the country for them. Gen Z hopes the coming government takes up their point of view and helps them build the community they dream of.
